Merit vs. Mach II

Hello Guys: We are closing in pretty soon on preventive grub
season. I am pretty well versed at both Merit and Mach II but
I'd like to hear what you think from around the country.

Keep in mind Mach II has changed their label to a higher active
ingredient for this season to handle european chafer.

I'm curious about successes, failures, pricing issues, etc.

Do you use sprayables, with granular fertilizer, straight granular?

What do your customers think?

What do you think about the advertising for the retail products in early Spring?

Thanks in advance.

I have used Merit for 3 years now with zero failures. I never used Mach II because of all the failures when it first came on the market. My Lesco rep. keeps trying to sell me the Mach II, but I think I'll stick w/ Merit. I know they increased the use rate on Mach II to help contol those fat European Chafers. Mach II is a little cheaper than Merit, but only a couple bucks, and not worth switching to me. ED

They are different products...

One prevents many bugs, one prevents a few bugs.......

I buy both on fert cause the price is the same, and offered with a good scu.

I like the Mach II at the higher rate now also.

I have used Merit w/o failure for the last 4 years.
(To keep the Grubs on their toes) I did try last year, changing to Mach II W/ failure on a number of sites! ... So I'm not too anxious to go w/ it this year.

I have heard that the liquid apps. will not work well on lawns with lots of thatch...!? have not tried that route myself... still recovering form the "old" mach damage

the truth on merit and mach 2

merit and mach 2 both control jap beetle grubs at 97-100%

merit gets better control on european chafers than mach2 did i'm sure that at the higher rate it will help euro's

However when it comes to asiatic garden beetles mach 2 in the past has almost 100% failed and merit only gets rid of approx 50% of them these beetles are the smallest so merit getting rid of 50% has been good enough but as the populations get bigger this may fail overtime, lets hope not if it was me i would stay with merit just a personal opinion
