Do you agree with the eXmark Rep on Mowing technique???

I ran into the eXmark rep this week at the dealer. Rep tells me the technique we use mowing is wrong and that "everyone he knows" mows his way. In all my 12 years of mowing I have never seen someone mow "his way".

So......, lets take a poll and find out.

Scenario: Square lawn, wide open, flat & no obstructions. Make 2 perimeter passes then mow left to right alternating passes.

Poll Question: After your perimeter are done, when ur coming to the end of each pass, which way do you turn to set yourself up for the next pass back?

1) Do you turn into the uncut grass then backup to line yourself up for the next pass back

2) Do you turn into the cut grass, which would have been a previous pass. Then back up and to line yourself up the next pass back

3) I just randomly mow until it's all cut

if you're not turning left, what's the point of having the zero turn?

exmark rep probably should have been more diplomatic, than just blurting out your mowing wrong. Their is really no wrong

It depends on what you want it to look like when done, if you don't care then is their really is no right or wrong way to mow.

Depends what's on the outside of the square...if it's a driveway, steep bank, woods, parking lot, house, mulch bed, etc all determines which way I want my chute pointing when I turn. I think it's faster to just cut to the left with the chute blowing out, but if I'm trying to keep the grass in the area, then I'll turn right, back up, and continue.

It depends on what you want it to look like when done, if you don't care then is their really is no right or wrong way to mow.

He defended his statement by saying that, when turning towards the uncut side your wasting time because the mower has to travel further to back up and get aligned for the next pass. I fired back by arguing the point that it doesn't matter which way you turn, you still have to go through the same motions to mow...

I agree with the last part of your response, there really is no "right/wrong" way to mow. I guess the point to the argument would be, what's the most efficient way to do it.....

For the sake of this Poll lets just say the entire perimeter is bordered by a street. I brought up this point to the rep and his solution to this was, "make 3 perimeter passes then". Who does this....???

I run a mulch kit and make a perimeter pass last. I turn into uncut grass.

some times i turn one way sometimes i turn the other, it all depends how i feel i suppose.

One lap around and then I turn into uncut unless I'm going to make a mess then I'll turn it the other way.

BTW, I just in the last 2 minutes of reading this thread I thought about this subject more than I have ever while mowing.
