What's the advantage of a reverse flow valve, besides the fact it fails closed?

lotta forward-flow valves also fail closed, just not from a tear in the diaphragm

The landscape associated with that valve dies 'cause no one knows that the valve failed.
You get to replace the landscape along with the valve repair! There's your advantage!

Reverse flow valves seem to pass crap better, but the previous post is right; one good reason to have the lawn guys guys keeping a eye out and you servicing the system regularly. With our RM clocks, we've taught everyone to check for faults which would indicate a "under run time", in which case the clock will bypass the zone. I'd rather have some stress than a catastrophic flood.
