Spreading Straw

Whenever I have put in lawns, usually smaller ones, I spread peat moss over the top instead of straw. No mess to clean up weeks later and no weed seeds popping up.

My question is; how many bales would you need for 5500 sq feet of lawn? Or, how much area does one bale cover?

I don't know much about it, but Ive heard that hay and straw are 2 different things. Is that true, and isn't there one that has seeds that germintae all over the place after you water your lawn in?

Well, I see that one bale will cover 500-600 sq ft.

What about the difference in hay and straw and it germinating in a new lawn? Is there no difference and it will germinate anyways?

oh well, I answered my own question....here for those that might have the same question I did.

http://www.differencebetween.net/obj...hay-and-straw/

And I take it after reading this to always use straw and not hay for mulching. Thats because the hay has various "weed seeds" (orchard grass) in it and that will germintae in your new lawn.
