Preparation of seed bed.

I'm doing Lawn renovation and I've killed off my existing grass and weeds with herbicide. I'm also installing sprinkler irrigation system cause I didn't think I could water the new seeds twice a day if I do it all by myself. The sprinkler system will be installed in couple of days. I'm planning to do the seed bed preparation and over seeding after the sprinkler system is installed.
What do you guys think is best for seed bed preparation.

--> If I spread 2 inches of compost over my lawn and run through a core aerator thoroughly is it good enough?
--> Or should I spread the compost and till the whole lawn with a rototiller ?

Does sprinkler system get effected because of either ?
