Trailer Project
Just started a Landscape Trailer project. Bought a Big Tex 30SA Trailer from an in-law for $400. Replacing rotten decking, rewiring, and installing trimmer/blower racks.
Rusted Torx bolts mostly broke off in the trailer frame. Any suggestions? Drill em out? Drill new holes? Will post additional pictures as the project progresses. |

Cut off screws with sawzall and use self tapping screws to fasten new boards.

That will be a nice project, I wish my trailer was that size or 5X10 would be even better, but $400.00 I would take it for sure. (from a frame similar to what you have to start with) I bult mine two years ago and it is still just big enough to get the job done out there. Their are some thing I did to mine that are unique and make working from the trailer a dream. It is in my thread and if you have any questions on how I did things just ask I would be glade to help, Good luck with you project, David

trailer project
Big Tex makes great heavy duty trailers!
cut the boards, split the remaining board scaps and then grind down whats left of the trailer deck screws. try to pay attention where the old screws are, because when you put the new boards down with new screws you DO NOT want to hit those old screws when you screw the new screws in. www.trailerprojects.com sells the screws you need to put the boards back on. they sell them in sell tapping and self drilling. self drilling is more expensive than self tapping self drilling has the drill bit machined into the screw the screw in place. self taping requires a pilot hole by drilling a pre hole before screwing the self tapping screw in place. two drills work great for self drilling one to drill the hole the other for the screw. I use a milwaukee drill because of the torq. www.trailerprojects.com also sells the trailer plans and kits to build a similar trailer as in this project. |
