Riggle,

It's been two weeks. Are your experimental seed beds displaying any signs of life?

bperl,
I went ahead and mowed my grass yesterday. Didn't seem to hurt it any. I left the clippings and straw.

I have been out of town for 10 days. I compared 5 treatments, each on one sqft on a low-quality bluegrass lawn, non-irrigated, applying 1/2 ounce of seed, about 31 pounds per thousand sqft, (Scotts Classic seed). Temperatures were cool--its 44 degrees now. soil temp is 45.

Treatments:

Seed after aeration
Seed just prior to aeration
Slits in soil
Untreated control
Soil topdressing (about .16 " )

16 days later, it was difficult to tell the difference, but treatments with soil topdressing, and secondly, seed applied before topdressing showed the best result. The tallest seedlings were about a half-inch tall.

What type of germination did you get between the aeration holes? Anything? Just hair plug results?

Now that I know that clay's texture(platelets) has nothing to do with water infiltration, percolation, or drainage
,,, I wonder what does...
