Only if it is new and unheard of. Gilsonite type sealers are banned in 13 states in the NE including NY but coal tar is banned in only a couple of places in the US mainly "panic" reactions to the Austin TX ban--about 3-4 cities at last count- (and BTW Austin is the ONLY city in TX to ever consider a ban and the USGS has admitted they didn't follow their own testing protocol to get those results; TX doen't mind the use of coal tar and it's the most common sealer here)
So as long as it's not a solvent type product like a Gilsonite or "rejuvenatory" product with solvents it should be OK.

I am not in the sealing biz but I think it is legal here. Velvetop is made right here on the island. I can buy both the regular velvetop (super sealer) and the slurry at my local lumber yard. I would call Velvetop directly and see what they say.

Actually there is a ban that will go into effect July 1, 2012 in Suffolk County, which is the eastern third of Long Island.
An up to date list of bans across the US is maintained on "Coal Tar Free America". Just google it and click the "bans" tab on the top of the page Posted via Mobile Device |
