ABS pressure fittings were a nightmare, as used in sprinkler-zone plumbing. How old are these systems? I would want to think you are looking at a dark grey PVC material, as was used in manifold fittings (both tees and crosses) made by Bosquet, and sold by Rainbird.

They were definatly black. They were in systems that were in the 25-35 year range

I never saw any ABS pressure plumbing in a manifold. Only a few contractors ever used ABS in sprinkler systems (I hope)

I service a development thats about 25 yrs old. All builder installed systems and all at one time had them. Most have been replaced by now.

This place will probably wind up with ASVs outside, with those brass valves gutted to always-open status. Maybe even use some old manual ASVs and leave the indoor stuff alone.
