Trash pump reduction needed?

Building a system and just bought a honda GX160 5.5hp motor and HD3XH honda trash pump w/ 3'' ports on the pump. Got it cheap too, $600 Canadian, brand new Anyway, was wondering if anyone can tell me if I need a reduction case w/ centrifugal clutch, or if I can just run this as is. This will be my first spray system, (getting lazy I guess, lol) and I don't have knowledge of the setup requirements. Do I need high pressure w/ low gpm or low pressure w/ high gpm? Makes more sense to me that I'd need the second option, which means I should be able to run this setup as is and just idle the motor, right? or will it pump too fast and lay it down too thick? Also, since pressure and gpm are important, what is the max length of hose I should be running with this setup?
