Are there any situations where low voltage lighting would be permissible for use in under water lighting around a dock area? I am fairly certain this is impossible but just wondering if there have been any changes in the NEC lately.

Steve. The best thing you can do is to check with your local electrical safety inspectors and see what they will and will not allow. Then, before you go installing underwater lights around a dock, check with your local, regional and possibly federal environmental and fisheries regulators. Around here you are not allowed to permanently place lights in water bodies as it affects the natural habitat and behaviour of aquatic species.

Precisely why they want the lighting around the dock. It is quite common place around here for dock owners to have underwater lighting or lighting just above the water level. All driven to attract "aquatic species".

Can anyone suggest a nice line voltage fixture?

Look to Hydrel and Pentair for some great line voltage Products. Both make excellent Low Voltage underwater fixtures as well.

How is the water flow in the area by the dock? I would think the extra lighting may lead to more alge growth if there isn't plenty of water movement in that area
