quick, easy lock down for equipment

I went to northern tool and bought several metal brackets that are designed to attach trailer springs to the frame of a utility trailer. The brackets cost abot $5 each. Screw in down to the shelf or walls of your enclosed trailer and use self tapping screws and attach them to the rails of an open trailer. I then use them to put the handles of my hedge trimmer, hand held leaf blower, or chainsaws, etc., into, and then put a long shackle lock through it. I use a green touch trimmer lock to lock up my trimmers. This has worked well for me so far and is an expensive little trick.

Email from phone then open email. Save the pic to your computer then post online. You can also use online services as well

ok, I switched to my computer and think that I got the pic to load. Excuse the poor quality, I had to squeeze in by some equipment to try to get the pic. Next time that I am in Nothern, I will write down the exact name of the bracket and the item number. Someone could cut the handle or the lock if they have long enough, but this is mainly to prevent the snatch and run thefts.

the screws in the bracket are easy to put in with no equipment in it, but would be much hard once a piece of equipment, mainly a hedge trimmer or chain saw type handle, was sitting it in. The long shackle lock work great for it also.

went to northern tonight and they have changed vendors and no longer carry that particular bracket. It was made by Smith and is called a Bolt on Front Spring Hanger Bracket (p/n 14016GA).

im not sure what that thing costs, but i would buy some angle stock or c-channel, and drill some holes, those are simple brackets.

consider using torx head screws...less common

otherwise, why waste the time? I use steel cable, fish it though everything and then use 1 single lock.

the brackets cost about $2.50each. C channel with a hole drilled in it already is called a axle spring holder and cost about $3.50. Saves you the effort of cutting and drilling. The reason for not using something with a torx head is that these were self tapping screws that I used cause I had them lying around. Steel cable definitely works though, but these also secure the equipment down to my shelves and keeps it from sliding around.

looks to me like a leafspring shackle will do the same...drill holes through the end and put a hitch pin lock on it ...very tough to steal
