Why only a junction box? What about the exposed romex?

I'll give it credit for being UF cable, but exposed power-wire connections are just so &%$#@* sleazy. I think I've seen the same controller hooked to lamp cord plugged into an outdoor outlet, with the connections twisted and taped.

How the hell did you determine that? I can't see any markings on it, perhaps I am blind? That could be any type of romex ... 14/2 wg nm-b would be my guess. In either event, it should be in conduit, UF or not.

Exposed non-metallic cable, be it UF or not, just doesn't trip the outrage alarm like exposed power-wire connections, which could invite curious children to danger.

Zone #1 missing nozzle at head. Water lands right on the rain sensor.
No wonder the other 23 zones look dry.

Two zones have been valved twice to address leaking diaphragms by the previous sprinkler tech...
