Need Advice on an Athletic Field

A private school is looking to begin a maintenance program for their practice field. At the moment the field is being used for girls lacrosse and soccer. It is a weed free, tall fescue field that is fertilized 4 times a year in southeastern Pa. It does get cut weekly and sometimes twice a week depending on growth. On a scale of 1 to 10 it is about a 5. Looks good from far away but is very clumpy with divots. It has never been aerated or topdressed. Coaches are getting nervous about ankle injuries.

Any suggestions? Thanks

Tall fescue isnt known for its wear tolerance. Its growth type is bunch type, meaning it does not have rhizomes ot stolons to create a dense, woven turf. This is where the clumpy look is coming from. I would core aerate. remove the cores, top dress and overseed with some kentucky blue or something similar.
