Route's full. Need to expand.

If there was ever a good dilemma, this would probably be it. My route is at maximum capacity, and the calls keep coming in for more estimates. Regular maintenance and cleanup jobs alike. I think we're getting at least 3 or 4 calls for estimates everyday, and we're booked solid for the next 2 and a half months right now for cleanup type jobs. Something needs to be done to expand because, as it stands, we're having to turn down jobs left and right due to no room in the schedule.

What would/should be the next step in expanding in order to fit in more jobs? The route I'm running has already been consolidated and streamlined, so drive time is as minimal as it's going to get.

I run route by myself Monday through Thursday, and we operate as a team of two on Fridays.

BTW: The person with me on Fridays is my supervisor who runs a pest control route Monday through Thursday. He's mainly with me on Fridays to help with the bigger jobs as well as a couple customers who demand his presence on the job.

How about raising the prices of the cleanups to slow it down?

If you find another guy, you should see your production go up accordingly. You can still run 3 guys on Friday.

Try to find someone wanting to work a few days and you can pick up more work.

3 guys is prime for residential routes, 4 is two many unless you are training one and plan on splitting the route with 2 trucks soon. Then you start over....

yeah i guess the next step would be to hire another guy. he can work with you mon-fri. so you'll have 2 guys mon-thurs and 3 guys on friday.

you could even hire 2 more guys and have 3 people mon-thurs and have 4 on friday.

...or you can just stay at the level you are at and be happy with it. it might be better than fooling with the hassle of hiring workers.

There's been talk about hiring someone else or another 2-man crew to handle cleanup/install jobs. Another thought was to upgrade to a bigger/faster mower to speed up production. One can only work so fast with a 22" push mower. We have a trailer readily available if we were to get a WB or ZTR of some sort. Still eyeballing a Wright Stander for an upgrade.

I think you should have one maintenance crew that works from Monday through Friday and one clean up crew that works Monday through Friday as well. If you are actually getting that many calls I would have three employees running the maintenance side and three running the clean up crew. It is as simple as that.

I think if you bought a 48 inch walk behind it would allow you to cut your time significantly. that is double the size of your other mower so it should pretty much cut your time in half for mowing
