Urgent May 1, 2012 5:20 PM CDT Severe Weather Message:

URGENT WEATHER MESSAGE FOR ALL MEMBERS AND VIEWERS IN THE UPPER MIDWEST, OHIO VALLEY, NORTH CAROLINA AND VIRGINIA THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT. MAJOR OUTBREAK OF SEVERE WEATHER EXPECTED WITH SEVERAL TORNADOES LIKELY.

Numerous Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Watches are in effect as of 5:00pm CDT over much of Minnesota, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina and Virginia through the night.

Strong wind flow in the upper atmosphere with several disturbances embedded in the flow are interacting with a surface warm front which extends from a low in South Dakota east over the Ohio Valley and on east to the North Carolina coast.

Severe thunderstorms, some supercells which are rotating and short lines, are moving east southeast over most of the region at 40 mph. Some of these storms are particularly dangerous and can produce hail larger than baseballs (especially over Minnesota) and winds over 80 mph with several tornadoes expected, a strong tornado is not out of the question over the northern Midwest (eastern SD, IA,MN, WI).

A special video has been issued on LawnSite Weather further explaining this situation. GO TO LawnSite Weather Tab on the LawnSite Forum.

Also go to LawnSite Weather tab for the latest radar within the Watches under the Severe Weather Tab and go to the Live Radar for the Midwest, Ohio Valley, North Carolina and Virginia.
