Deer / Tick Prevention

Does anybody know of any sort of chemicals that i can put down to prevent deer and ticks?

Liquid fence works for deer. Smells bad for a few days.

You can spray for ticks. Keep grass cut and undergrowth controlled

What can i spray for the ticks?
Also this is for the lawn not for flowers, will liquid fence still work?

We live in wooded rural area and have heavy deer population. Best thing we have found to keep deer off plants and rubbing bark off trees is human urine. Certain times of the year is the worst so I collect my pee and using a pump sprayer we spray tree bark, and borders of garden and flower beds. We repeat every couple of days. In past we have had good luck with melted moth crystals but we hate the smell. The urine is watered down and it doesn't smell hardly at all, to us that is

For ticks we have found liquid sevin the cheapest way to kill them out.

Deer spray services has become the biggest thing we do here in Connecticut. We use DeerPro Winter Animal Repellent in the fall and DeerPro Spring/Summer during the growing season. We also do a lot of tick spray services as Lyme Disease is a big problem. We use a synthetic pyrethroid to control ticks.

This is a question more than advice. What about motion detector sprinkler systems to chase off the deer??? I see these devices advertised in different magazine and feel they should work. Every time a deer would come in range they would be squirted with water. I see them advertised for chasing Birds and Dogs etc. Why not deer also??

Deer quickly figure out that the sprinkler isn't going to hurt them. They don't mind a little bit of water splashed on them while they feed. Also, sprinklers won't help during the winter with freezing temperatures.

With deer populations as high as they are around here they will get used to most spray products because hunger overrules deterrents. They have stripped forests of the under story plants except for barberry. With no saplings surviving, these forests will not last for more than 50 years.

There is a company that specializes in deer deterrent, can't think of there name at the moment. Fencing is the only long term solution I know of.

If you're trying to reduce ticks, don't bother spraying lawns because tick habitat is shady, brush and tall grasses.

I have a customer whose neighbor installed the motion detector for deer. I found this out when applying to the edge of his property and the thing kicked on and soaked me. My first job of the day too! Startled the crap out of me too! 2 months later the hostas were down to nubs and the motion detector still was on.
