Hustler 4400 72" 3-way deck gearbox
I have a Hustler 4400 pushing a 72" 3-way deck. The deck gearbox shelled on me and I am trying to find the best way to get back up and running. A new gearbox was quoted at a dealer for $1,470.00. I'm wondering if anyone knows where I could come up with a rebuilt gearbox or another deck, or another option. I need to get it up and running. 7 acres of grass/weeds with lots of trees are getting shaggy.

Did the gearbox case and cover survive? if so I would rebuild it.
If not then new is the only real option. You may find something used on a deck out there if you look on different trader sites. craigslist etc... but you may be getting another worn out gearbox. Also watch out for what gearbox you buy, some of them turn the opposite way from yours due to different set ups. Pj

The case and cover are all ok. I caught it in time to keep it from completely disintegrating. I agree with you on the used gearbox. It would be very easy to buy one also ready to go out. I guess the only way to really know what you have is either buy new or rebuild.
Thanks for the input. I really appreciate it. |
