Yes that is Bermuda turf that was topdressed with sand. We did not do the actual topping ourselves. The home owner himself did it. We just installed the irrigation and sod. I am not familiar with topping turf with sand. Is this common? Is it safe to do? My customer told us that he was told by people who work on golf courses that it is done all the time.

Yup, it is common practice to scalp, verticut, and topdress Bermuda and zoysia with sand. We use this green sand here that has some nutrients in it. It's a very profitable niche market.
