Height question
Is it ok to have your first step riser into a home 2"5/8. Then two step risers 6" or is this first step a tripping hazard? I have a guy using 3" mini creta as a riser and 3" cap as a tread for a 6" total riser, which is great, but his first step is 2"5/8 seems wrong to me, or is it acceptable.
There's 18" of total height to the door why not just make two steps 6" with 12" treads, why because he laid in his base and didn't take into account 1" sand and 2 3/8 paver so the first riser which should be 6" is now 3" 3/8 less which is the 2"5/8. I'm not an expert by no means but this is a friend of mine so now I'm really curious.

The local building code will stipulate the maximum variation acceptable. No one on the Internet can answer the question. Only your local dept of permits and inspections can tell you the answer. The county where I am allows something like 3/4" variance in riser heights.

Thanks guys, I know our local code and it's 6-8" riser min 10" treads, thought maybe I was missing something. I talked with the contractor told him who I was and told him I'd help him out. I said I'm not here to bust your chops just doesn't seem right to me. I honestly don't see any other way but to remove the base, not a huge area 420sq'. But I don't see any other way right now, his job so he can do what he wants like I said I just pointed it out.

wow 3/4" variance in step heights..... thats slack.
To the OP yes he needs to change that. He shouldn't have to rebuild the whole patio though, if it was supposed to be 18" meaning 3 rises at 6" just make it 2 rises at close to 8" and that should make equal steps if I am understanding the situation correctly. Either way you can;t leave it the way it is!!
