A customer is entitled to a finished project that they are satisfied with aesthetically, that functions properly, that requires minimal maintenance, that can be expected to have a reasonable life span, and that is warrantied by the contractor, and fulfills their prior expectations. I will cede the point that many potential customers have a misguided idea that Water Features are inexpensive. As a result, many cannot truly afford one. This is why I have a problem when I hear "I can do that a lot cheaper" from a contractor. I immediately get an image in my mind of a less than ideal Water Feature done for a less than normal price that is going to exhibit major problems in a considerably less than expected time frame. I have demoed and rebuilt many of these bargain features for some very unhappy people. On the other hand, in the 15+ years that I have been in business, I have never had to rebuild a project that I originally installed. Yes, I will improvise at times, but only when there is not a unit/module/part available that will fulfill the unique needs of a particular project. I have seen so many 'trunk slammers' that take the money and run that anytime I hear someone mention 'doing it cheaper', the hair on the back of my neck stands up. This, I am sure, causes me to overreact unjustly in some cases. If this proves to be one of those cases, then I apologize in advance.

Just looked up the water feature the client wants to use and the weight of the water fountain is ...303lbs. Might have to be a vault or basin to support that kind of weight. I have tried to find the specs of weight capacity of the vault below, but cannot find anything.
http://www.amazon.com/Little-Giant-5...eywords=566410 If I were to use a basin, it would need to be wider than the bottom tier of the water fountain which is 34" right? From what I can tell, the basins just collect water from the top and not from the sides like a vault. Large basins seem to be really expensive. |

I'm confused. You originally stated that this was an urn bubbler, now you are talking about the lower tier of a fountain. Which is it?
If it is an urn, is that the empty weight? If so, you will need to allow for the additional weight of the water. At 8.33 lbs/gallon, you are talking considerable extra weight. The base of most urns are 18' - 24 ", so you will need at least 40" basin so you will be able to access the pump. You will not need a pump vault. Basins can be pricey, but again, they are engineered to support this kind of weight. Check with EasyPro. They have a 40" basin that, if desired, can be reinforced with concrete for additional support capacity.
