Converted my F-150 into a "triple decker"

For as long as I can remember, we've had a "2-tier truck bed" setup with this truck. The bed of the truck has a raised platform in it so that the mower ramp, hand tools, and a backup hedge trimmer can be stored underneath the open part of the bed where the mower, blower, chemical locker, and backpack sprayers go. I've been trying to work with this setup for the past year, and I've been constantly running into the problem of not having enough storage space for other stuff such as wheelbarrows, fertilizer bags, and miscellaneous tool boxes. So... as of this evening, I've added another "tier" that's over the cab of the truck (on the front of the rack) for storing/transporting the stuff that I haven't had room for. Basically, I used a 23/32" thick sheet of plywood, and 4 pipe straps to mount it with. Maximum load capacity is approximately 200 pounds up there.

How well should something like this hold up? I haven't had a chance to give it a thorough test run yet. Keeping my fingers crossed that my handy work does the trick. Otherwise, I may have tossed some money down the drain.

Edit: Not storage space for fertilizer bags. Meant to put "full garbage bags". Seems that my brain is misfiring tonight. Must be the end of the work week.

Photos probably would help. Here's a couple to illustrate what I've done.

Where I am we call that a roof rack. I think a rail all the way around it would be a big plus, if not a requirement. I have a basket case-type roof rack with an elastic cargo net to go over it. It's not something I use for work though.

Still waiting on my boss to equip this truck with a tow package. Seems to be the last thing on his list of "priorities" even though he's reminded of it everyday. What's funny though is he bought a trailer for this truck, parked it in his driveway, and just left it at that. I really don't understand this guy sometimes.

Is this your truck or the boss'?

Tow package?

That's something they put on a truck at the factory. Some factory options can be added at the dealer later.

Does your truck have a receiver?

Reese and other company's sell receiver's that just bolt in place.

They also sell 4 pin connectors that plug into your tail light harness. No cutting no splicing, no taping, no soldering.

Buy a cheap Harbor Freight 4'x8' trailer for $300, some lumber for a floor and sides and you can clean out all of those wood platforms out of your truck.

Unstained wood racks look dilapidated. Your rig makes your first impression. It can keep you from getting the job.

And people wonder why some homeowners associations make it illegal to park a truck on the street or in a driveway.

Ford F150 tow packages usually include a big alternator, 7 pin wiring harness, taller rear gears, brake controller and a hitch.
