Subgrade Design for Athletic Fields

Our client is in the process of wanting to install a community park on a vacant property that will include baseball and soccer fields. Are there any guidelines or standards regarding depth of topsoil/mulch that is preferable underlying either sod or hydroseed? I know about the slope requirements but am curious about any standards or even "rules of thumb".
