Runs Like a Girl

... would be my Indian name.

I was nailed by yellow jackets/wasps again today while trimming some hedges.

AAAAHHHHH!!!

Right by the second joint of the "ring finger", but on the right hand.
By tomorrow I probably won't be able to make a fist. Doesn't hurt NOW, but I await the soreness that is to come.

This is only the third time I've been hit this season. Last year they got me on five different occasions. Once I was nailed three times on one ankle and twice on the other leg on my calf. WHAM! WHAM! - WHAM! WHAM! WHAM!
AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Gotta love those stinging insects.
I hate the paranoia that follows that gets me all jumpy. A stray weed can touch my leg and I think I'm getting attacked again!

could that be because there is no such colour as white
i don't know about yellow jackets but i was told to put 2 stroke fuel on European wasp stings and when I've done this the sting has hardly swollen up note i did this with a bee string and my arm still swelled to double the size so maybe the wasps just haven't put as much venom in

I have seen 2 nest this year. Stung once Could be a lot more nest this year because of the warm winter. I have been stung probably 100 times over the many years. One time I was backing up weedeating and it felt like my legs were on fire. I looked down and the ground was black with yellow jackets. They were going up my pants legs and in my shoes and socks. The second worst time is when I brushed up against a tree and it contained a Hornets nest. I jumped off the mower then jumped a 5 foot wall. They got me all over the back. I have been stung in the face and the ear. So don't feel bad, running is the best defense

Ever thought of changing the business name to "Flo-Joe Cut 'n Go?"

Funny you mention this because the same thing happened to me today. I was spraying around a spruce and disturbed a wasp nest. I dove off my sprayer and started sprinting. Only one got my pinky and i looked back at my machine and it was covered in wasps. Thinking I was going to get them back, i grabbed the hose sprayer on my Z and started spraying them... only to remember I wasnt applying insecticide on the property and just pissed them off more. So I had another nice run after that. I'm sure everyone in the hoa was getting a good laugh inside their houses.

The best defense is a good offense...be aware of where they might be and plan for it.

And you'd be surprised...a quick field remedy: Broadleaf or buckhorn plaintain. Crush up the leaves and apply to the sting...really reduces the swelling.
