Aeration vs topdressing
Topdressing or aeration--which is better? Are they really the same? Which one is quicker?
Not sure if this is right. I calculated that a 3/4" tine aeration hole is about .44 square inch. at 3 inches deep that is 1.32 cubic inches per core At 16 holes per sqft, that is 21.12 cu in per sqft Dividing by 144, that is a layer of soil of about .15 inch If 32 holes per sqft... I would have .30 inch of soil layer (if spread evenly). And no shoveling is needed. Is core aeration similar to topdressing? Your thoughts? |

What are you topdressing with? What do you mean by quicker, the application or the results? What results are you looking for?

Since pulling cores up and sitting on the ground its like Topdressing He using a shovel to topdress instead ofa topdresser unit But Riggle when you core a lawn and it rains and melts the cores where does the dirt goes to back in the hole Right??? So your Soil layer goes from.30 to .05 Topdressing spread evenly sometimes heavy in low spots and it rains Where does the soil go to?? not back in the holes Sometimes I'll spike the lawn before topdressing |

Interesting concept though, in that what is the purpose of most topdressing and what is the purpose of plugger aerations...
for example: topdressing with fertile topsoil for the purpose of adding microbrial activity to the surface can be accomplished with aeration, if you have fertile topsoil...
