The most annoying thing in mowing...

I have to admit to you guys my most annoying experience on a daily basis mowing is people outside. Im not talking about just being at a distance and watching, Im talking about the people outside the apartments that come out when you pull up to smoke a cigarrete or the people that decide to bring there kids out to play as you and your guys are pulling up and unloading.

The worst part of this is when you get close enough to them to where the grass/debris is literally flying directly at them and they continue to do whatever thinking they are untouchable. Example this mom and her kids came out when me and my guys were mowing and by the time we got to the other side of the building and started coming her way she just let the kids jump in front of the mower while I tried to get her attention. She just smoked her smokes..

I actually had a res. customer today outside reading a book while I was mowing and when I finally did the front yard (to give her time to move the dog and herself inside) she sat there while grass while shooting out and then yelled at me for a small rock hitting her dog that was barking endlessly at me. This was an accident but still.. this is by far THE MOST annoying thing about mowing, PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS IN THE WAY!

I agree with you, I think there is a certain mentality with apartment dwellers, most don't seem to be to sharp. This is one reason that I focus on medium to high end residential.

when we were mowing some apartments and they all came out and gathered around, we would just shut off the mower and go to another area to mow. they finally got the idea to stay back when they saw we weren't gonna mow it.

If these people are obstacles to you then maybe you're in the wrong line of work.

I would suggest paying attention and minding your manners and your equipment because not only does our business depend on them but should a piece of hard debris such as glass or rock find itself in the grass that is literally flying at them it is going to be you they are going to hold liable and in this economy there exist folks just itching for the big bad lawsuit that will set them straight for life.

Come to think of it I can't say I've never been tempted, the only reason I don't do it is because I'm afraid but there exist plenty of people to whom right and wrong doesn't draw the same lines it draws for me.

Not much you can do at the apartment complex other than go to a different area, but if a homeowner comes out or their kids or dog or turtle or whatever,, I tell them that they need to go inside until I'm finished.

Too much liability. I remember a story on here where a person on a Z backed up over a persons dog and took its leg off.

This is a problem for us as well...that and the spillage of junk off of the patios of the townhomes. Just recently the local garbage pickup dropped off two new trash bins which there is no room for on the tiny patios...some are in the lawns. Depending on how I feel on a particular day I may or may not move them.

If somebody's outside, I'll skip the area. At the end of the day, if they went back inside, I
ll cut it. If not, it's getting skipped.

I find that this is usually only a problem on the weekends. I don't work on the weekends.
