what's included in your stop and what makes you stand out
This is usually a winter mood of thinking....what can i do to be better than the next guy? But here we are and its almost August and i'm a little burned out wishing I had enough for a crew.
So what do you include in your normal mow stop? Mow, edge, trim, blow, spot spray beds for weeds? In a town where mow-blow-go is the normal service, I'm looking to expand my services to provide a better product. Upselling or including some additional services might be a good idea and they could be implemented for the rest of the season(which might lead to an increase in price but customer could see what they were getting). -bed clean up (sticks, pinecones, etc) would be inexpensive add on? -routine pruning (prune what and when needed) I lack knowledge but could be a little more cost involved? -I already do applications/aerations/seeding. it is done per app or included in monthly bill per customer request. Any thoughts? |

Mow, trim, blow, edge all of my accounts. Some I spray beds for weeds if the customer is willing to pay for it.

Take some classes over the winter at your local community college, and do alot of studying on your own on the services that you are interested in offering. Find a friend or family member who will let you " practice" on their shrubs. Get used to your equipment. Nothing looks worse than when you show up to do a 3 or 400.00 shrub job you bid, and you fumble around trying to figure out how to start your trimmers.
There is tons of free knowledge out there. It just take some homework. Just a note.. There are guys around here who offer dog poo removal as another service. Sounds like a crappy job, but if it makes money and you don't have to worry about stepping in it when you mow. Posted via Mobile Device |

there are other things that stand out from other guys or companies, such as promptly returning phone calls, make time to chat with clients from time to time (not all the time, not eaven alot of the time, but try and touch base with them a few times out of the season if they are around), professional invoices, receipts, clean well maintained equipment that provides superior results

I started out as a mow blow go guy, but I started getting ask to do other stuff so I decided to invest some money and go full service and it was the best decision I've made I now only offer year round full service, my business took off almost immedietly, it's what people want at least the ones that can afford it and they are the ones you want to market to anyway, right?

Show up when expected. I hear over and over, "I never knew when that guy was going to come to cut the grass."
Return phone calls. Again, "... I called and called again, and never got an answer back." Build a reporte with the customer, and with anybody else in the neighborhood (next door, across the street, down the street). People appreciate knowing who is on their property. When given the opportunity, speak with others in the neighborhood, so that you are the "LCO of choice." People do watch, you bet they do. [I just picked up a $70/cut job last week, primarily because I said "hello" to the man living next door. He has a hobby farm a couple of miles away, 14A of property, 1A of which needs mowed, and he is tired of having the job to do himself. ... all because I took a minute to speak with him.] Just do the basics well. |
