is this skid steer worth it?
my buddy has a 2007 new holland c175 with over 7000 hours
. He said it runs and drives good but smokes. it will also need new tracks. it was used for has construction business all its life. Is it worth buying it and ether rebuilding or replacing the engine? He wants $4000 for it. is this a good deal?

Get it for less than $4,000 and run it til it dies or the tracks fall off

I would pass. thts alot of hours for a skid that is only 5yrs old. which means it was worked hard. tracks will cost $2k plus. a new motor $5k

The skid is actually in very good condition. no rust, rips, leaks. has all service receipts & reports and an hour log book. it was used only in the equipment yard loading trucks every day.

Give him 3000, run it till it dies, pull the drive motors out sell them and send the rest of the machine for scrap

I agree with others here. It may look good, but 7000 hours is a hell of a lot of time on a skid. Hydro pumps and wheel motors may fail, and that's just the beginning of a host of problems you could be in store for. If on the other hand you use the machine for say 50 hours and make your investment back plus some, the go for it. Long term use isn't going to
happen with out throwing some serious Money at it. |

Run the machine for 40 hours and its paid for itself (not including fuel and such but you get the idea). I dont think you can go wrong even at 4K for the machine.

i replaced 2 of those drive motors on an old c185 i had.... they cost 6000 almost 4 years ago each. if he blows the motor unloading it off the trailer he will still be ahead money.
