So I have been looking around for a while for a back rack that will also hold shovels and rakes and such. Long story short they don;t exist.

Here is what I am looking at having built by a local shop and they should be able to do it for under $500 out of aluminum. "Backracks" around here start about 250-300 and I would have to do alot of mods to make it how I would like.

Give me your thoughts, So far I have spacing to accommodate various handle sizes as well as flush mount lights. I might do mesh instead of the bars, i am not sure I like the 'Jail" look.

Great idea. Looks like the handles might cover up your lights though.

Yes potentially they would cover the lights, but those are going to be strobes primarily for use when plowing so I wasn't too concerned.

It will be approx 2" above the cab height. I realize this design would block the brake/cargo lamps. I will correct that.

ok here's a better version. I also added the wood sides so I can pile lots of mulch on...

Cool design. I'll just throw this out there though: shovels and stuff are easily held in PVC pipes screwed to the rack with pipe clamps. You can put them anywhere you want to, at any time you want to, and add to them as needed.

I like it. If you don't mind I might steal your idea and do the same for my truck. I need a project getting bored not doing anything as its still droughty.

The only things I would add. More tie down points for traps and etc. And a small tool box

I was thinking about some tie downs but haven't decided on a system i like. Any ideas?
