Looked at the toro 22156 to buy or not?
I went and looked at the toro 22156 the other day. Nice unit and much lighter than the heavy duty. I compared them side by side and it has many features that the hd has. My dealer has them for $850 bag included. Would selling some snappers be worth it to buy this mower? Is it reliable?

I have the older 22177TE, which is now the HD model. I think the 22156, being a 3 in 1 deck, is either a "semi-commercial" model or a high end consumer. From personal experience I just stay away from consumer grade stuff if I can. I would spend the money and get the HD, you'll prefer it in the long run. However, the Honda Motor is very reliable.
The 22177TE is probably the best mower I've used, ever. It is heavy, over 100 pounds easily, but it cuts really well. I think the weight of the mower, pneumatic wheels, and wheel bearings make a huge difference. The Kawasaki motor is just as good if not better than the Honda. |

i just bought the 22155 sme as the 56 but with no propulsion. it is a good mower bags everything up good. bag seems small. i kick the bag with my feet when it fills up, that could be a personal problem. overall i like it better than my snappers but the snappers do have a way about them that you are used to that the toro will switch up on you and you will need to adjust to it.
the heavy duty mowers have they older superrecycler 2 deck it looks like to me. they also spin the blade faster @ 18000 compared to 17000. they cary more grass and gasoline. the kawasaki model with the fj180kai version engine is the most powerfull you can buy! has like 1 more ftlb torque than the normal fj180. the honda versions with the gxv160 are only 5.5 hp and more money than the kai kawasaki motor hold less fuel too! i wouldnt buy the over priced honda version. the 22156 comes with a honda gsv190 motor which is alot more powerfull than the gxv comercial motor. the 22156 will get the job done but i think the heavy duty models are a overall better machine for work they might be heavier but hold more gas more grass have a faster blade tip speed and suposed to have a better transmision. hope this helps! |

Thanks for the feedback. I have kind of been there with the hd toro. Too heavy and no side discharge. That's why I'm looking at the lighter commercial.

alot of people say the comercial hondas are the tops! im a exmark and toro guy i like their stuff so i stick with red! the honda has a lever that controls bagging and mulching and the mulching with double blades is top notch from what i hear, they also rear discharge.

Can anyone explain what the problem is with the one speed tranmission? I've been looking at getting either the Toro 22156 or the new, 2010 and younger exmark 21". Both have this one speed transmission. How does this compare to the 3 speed transmission you find on the toro commercial 21" or the older exmark metro 21"?
