When you had the spark plug out and was rotating the engine by hand to find top dead center compression stroke, Did you insert a small screwdriver into the plug hole and feel the piston move up to TDC while rotating ?

Yes I did and it was also alinged with the mark on the blower housing as well. Theres a little hole or dot right in front of the "T" mark as well. I let it run with the spark checker on that side and fire seems constant. I pulled the plug while it was running and it even sparked against valve cover.

OK Doug,

You've got spark, valves are set to spec and piston is moving up and down.

There's only one thing left that I can think of that would cause that cylinder to go dead, Lack of fuel.....

Notice your intake has separate ports for each cylinder;

That means one barrel of the carb only feeds fuel to one cylinder while the other feeds the other cylinder, Apparently the main jet and or circuit in the carb for the affected side is plugged up with trash or something. With no fuel that side will not run, Main jets are red boxed below..... Looks like it's time for a carb cleaning.....

You were exactly right!!! I had previously changed carbs and thought I was fine there; but apparently there was trash in tank/filter or something. I drained the tank after it cranked and both cylinders were firing just to try and make sure I dont repeat the problem. Your help has been invaluable. Thanks a million!!!

Super !

It's always better to start with the easy things first then move on to the more time consuming things.....
