what does crickets mean in lawn?

I was mowing my front yard yesterday and I was mowing I noticed there were crickets jumping and crawling around. What does this mean? or what causes them? I think this is the first time I've seen any in my yard. They were the big crickets (like you fish with) but almost black.

If they are mole crickets in high enough numbers you might have an issue to address. Other crickets-I am not aware of them being a turf pest.

I believe you may mean locusts/grasshoppers that seem to really hit on suffering grass lands... one of my gardens on the edge of the field was just left to grow tall grass this year and now that it is dying back the grasshoppers are everywhere...

It's where they live...I've seen a ton lately. They do no harm.

My grass is not even close to green. My fescue burnt up this year. Only green grass is the volunteered bermuda grass.
