Tall fescue, how hard or easy to care for?

I posted in the regional forum about tall fescue out in Cali as I plan on moving there in the next 3-5 years. Guys said it is probably the most common turf and I was wondering about maintenance?? Renovation?? Fertilizer?

Fescue is also water intensive and I can tell you that you won't be growing much of anything in those areas stricken by drought, not to mention that tap water in California is expensive (and I mean the water bill will shock you expensive), then it still depends what part of California... Put another way, the drought out west is so intense that farmers are currently begging Congress to put a hold on Corn for ethanol production because they are afraid that continued corn for ethanol production is going to impact food prices in ways we do not want to experience.

We are on mandatory water restrictions ourselves, this is the earliest we have ever been put on mandatory restrictions ever.
The Rocky mountains were 45% short on snow last winter.

Oh, it's bad.

From my experience of so Cal zoysia would be my first choice. As far as fescue goes its about the same as any other turf grass

I'm talking so cal, mainly coastal areas. Average temps are around 75 for San Diego so it's not like the grass would be starving for water....can you guys expand a little more on maintenance practices??

Fescue is a water hog. When temps hit 80+ it dies. It will give you a lot to do as far as overseeding.

I will for Bermuda and zoysia though! Although, I should just go and buy the most expensive walker for those...

I wouldn't plant anything with the word "Tall" in it You need a customer that will let you cut it 2 times per week. When someone plants tall fescue, I just go ahead and fire myself and save them the trouble People usually lime and fertilize it

Why move so far? Seems like you are building up a pretty good high end business where you are. I sure wouldn't want to have to start over with nothing.
