Question Tree disease?

Found this on a tree in one our developments.

The bark has lessions covering the entire tree, excesive leaf drop with what appears to be a fungus on them.

I want to say it's a live oak, but the leaves don't look right.

Anybody have any ideas what this disease is?

Lichen is in the family of epiphyte which are non self supporting AIR plants that need a structure to grow on. Lichen in itself is not bad but sets up the proper environment for algae to grow under or around it. Lichen might not be the bad guy but algae sure is because it grows into the bark and causing it to die.

Cooper sulfate painted on the Lichen is the best cure and Citrus Groves schedule it every 3 to 4 years.

I am not real good with Pictures but it looks like some kind of scale. Possible Cottony Cushion scale that has been weathered a little. It does not have the typical round shape of most scales.

I strongly suggest you call a Professional Lawn Care company to take care of the problem. Cooper sulfate can cause irreversable eye damage.

I'm sure you meant to say call a licensed professional Tree care company.

It's what I thought also, I don't see any honeydew or sooty mold under the tree. I'll have to throw a ladder up and get a better look at some living leaves.
