The Scag SFW what do you know about it????

Hello,

Have any of you guys used or heard things about this mower its the Scag Belt Drive walk behind with the floating deck. My main concernces are does it cut like the fixed deck 36? and can you put a sulky behind it? I am in the market for a new WB, and I have narrowed it down to the metro, proline, or this? I would like this sense it is a floating deck and not fixed. I do only mow between 3.0 and 4.0 inches. Yet that could change if I grow. Last thing is pistol grips really that bad? I do have lost of obstacles in my clients yards. So I would be squeezing a lot! FYI I have 17 clients, if that helps.

Thanks, anything is helpful.

Pablo

I only use mine on a couple yards where I can't get my zero turn but I am happy with it. The only problem I have with it is I have to lift the deck up and put bolts through the highest setting to keep the deck up while loading and unloading from the trailer. Otherwise it will tear up the expanded metal on the gate, besides that that's my only complaint.

I'm sure you could use a sulky on flat land, doubtful if you have many hills.

The SFW uses cheaper spindles than the rest of the line. The single belt to each drive wheel is unusually. They have been using the double belt since the 80's, why change now?

I would say less surface area to contact pulley's which means they would slip quicker in wet or high torque situations. I could be totally wrong though.

Oh that is that low end unit that they brought out a couple years ago. Might want to go up to McCoys and talk to Jimmy. My opinion is that unit is built cheaper to fit a market need for homeowners but if you take good care of it then you would be okay. Those single belts drive are probably notgoing to be good in hilly country after you get a lot of use on them. Or in wet conditions like irrigated yards. I would consider going up to the better 36" unit without the floating deck.

But is easy adjustment is important the fixed deck won't work. We are waiting and hoping they will introduce a decent 36" hydro with floating deck. One at decent price and no bicycle driving handles.
