Nothing wrong with the trimmer itself, but once you've done a large shrub job it will get heavy, I opted for the HS 45 instead it does a great job and doesn't weigh near as much, now if I get into some really heavy overgrown stuff I pull out my pole trimmer on my FS 110 and go to town, it also doubles as a brush cutter on cleanouts.

the HS45 has a 18 inch blade and weighs 10.4 lbs... the HS86 has a 30 inch blade and weighs 11.5 lbs... that one pound really makes a difference? plus, the 86 has a single sided blade... any advantages to the single sided blade vs. double |

There was another thread on this very subject, actually mine is a HS 46, with a 22" blade, and weighs in at 9.5 lbs from what I hear it's the 30" blade that makes the difference, I looked at the 86 and yes the weight difference is very noticable.

they newer ones must be heavier since the stihl website lists the 46 @ 10.4 lbs... i need more research and comments from the community here. i will search for the thread you mention also... |
