Cleaning Hedge Trimmer Blades?

I am looking for some suggestions on cleaning my hedge trimmer blades from all the deposits that get on them with use. I'm looking for some ideas.

What have some of you actually used, that worked well?

Fluid film will be the most popular on here. It does work. I recently bought a can with the Stihl lable on it, smells very similar to wd40 to me.me.

WD-40 and an old scrub brush works well for removing the crap that gets stuck to them, especially if they've not been cleaned for a long time (or ever treated with Fluid Film), and it makes it come off quickly, then I wipe the blades off when finished and coat them with Fluid Film. It stays on for quite a while, and really helps keep the sticky stuff from re-collecting.

I was told that WD-40 works well. Others have told me that they use carb or brake cleaner also.

Fluid film is the best for this. While unlikely, petroleum based products may cause the leaves to burn on the tips, but Fluid Film is lanolin based so it won't burn foliage.

I second this. The "trimmer cleaner" I bought at my stihl dealership STRONGLY favors the smell of WD-40. Hmmmmm I wonder why.

Some WD-40 and my IR Die Grinder with a wire brush usually does the trick.

Soap and water. Just squirt Dawn and a little water on them and run it. Re oil after it dries.

I always used wd-40 with good results but recently i bought the stihl spray and a wire brush and i gotta say: that stuff is way better. Makes the blades almost look brand-new

After cleaning and in between use I use Vegetable Oil to lubricate the blades.

No petroleum based product touches the plant. It's cheap and there's always a lot of it around. And if you have to, you can steal it from the kitchen.
