My deck is making a whistling noise

I have almost 800 Hrs on my 2008 Exmark Lazer HP with the 27 Kohler and notice a whistling noise in my deck and sounds like my friends supercharged 1989 Mustang lol. I'm guessing the spindles or pulley is going? I shook each blade up and down and there ok though. The belt is original, the pulleys feel fine even though the plastic pulley seem to wiggle a hair but the wiggle went away. At a low throttle it's still pretty loud.

Take your belt off and spin everything. If anything sounds like sounds gritty then its on its way out. Ive never heard of anything on the deck making that sound but i do know that the bearings in the clutch can go bad and make a high pitched sound but this is whether the clutch is engaged or not. Since the clutch on your mower is under the frame it would sound like the deck.

Just curious to your reply before, what parts would sound gritty? The spindles or deck pulleys?

All of it. If its gritty like there is dirt in the bearings then they will go eventually. The seals that keep the dirt out of the bearing are worn and allowing it into the bearing.

It doesn't make a gritty noise just a high pitch noise. I will let you guys know what happens tomorrow when mowing.

Get a handheld non contact thermometer..
While the pulleys are spinning...point the red dot on each of the bearings and pulleys...the hottest one will be the problem..
The noise is caused by friction...friction makes heat...

That would be to easy. Great idea BTW would never have thought of it myself.

290...been listening to screaming...ragged out mowers for years...
A $40 handheld thermometer from Harbor Freight has made a lot of diagnosis issues easier...
Pointing it at the exhaust pipes on twin cylinder engines will tell you how the engine is running..
