Looks like Helminthosporium fungus
http://www.caes.uga.edu/publications/pubDetail.cfm?pk_id=6072#Diseases I noticed two of these spots in my yard the other day. I think the cool dry week, followed by high humidity all last week, then a quick snap back to low humidity and cool temps on Sunday made conditions favorable. |

Here's a better article for turfgrass. I noticed that other one was for forage grasses. I was on my phone when I posted that last one.
http://www.caes.uga.edu/publications...cfm?pk_id=7395 http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/lh048 - This one gives fungicides that will control it in turfgrass Here's a "Homeowners reference" of fungicides and their common names and manufacturers http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/document_pp154 Looks like Spectracide Disease Control Granules contains myclobutanil which is labeled for turfgrass and is available at the big box stores for you to purchase. |

Could also be slime mold which will probably go away on its own since it's been dry all this week with no rain.
Take a closer pic of the individual leaf blades and post them. |

Think it could be Slime Mold?
It does rub off of the grass. |

If it rubs off, then I'm leaning towards slime mold.
I'll check my patches out tonight too and see if mine are the same. I noticed one on either side of my driveway over the weekend. |

Just called "Lawn Doctor" who has treated our yard 2 times so far (got them coming before i had time to get interested in doing all this myself). Dude there said it's Powdery Mildue, and that Slime mold grows on the dirt vs. the living grass......Not convinced they know what they are talking about

I was out mowing my yard yesterday evening and noticed the patches are pretty much gone. I think the dry weather all week took care of it.

I looked too last night, the spots were less noticeable, and were not spreading. I could rub the black stuff off of some on the blades of grass i tried.
