Exmark Kohler CH25 overactive governer???

Many of you will remember me from the last issue the mower had (ended up being a valve seat). Well I had a coil go out (no big deal), replace it and blades. Well she starts up, and idles ok. When I go to bring the throttle up all the way the governer pushes it back down to abotu 1/2 speed. If I hold it at full it runs great, let go and half speed it is.

I did not touch the linkage. What causes this sort of behavior? The governer spring is still in the same position as last year (checked some digital pictures). I do not see the throttle to carb linkage being bent or binding. Anyone have a pic of a CH25 throttle setup so I can verify? Thanks.

There were a couple different style throttle controls used, Posting a engine spec number will show which you have.....

KOHLER CH25 68543

Does it sound like maybe the governor assembly got "mis adjusted" somehow? I know big engines, these smaller engines are newish to me.

When I watch it, it seems the linkage does not push the actual carb linkage until 1/3. That sounds vague but the best way I can describe it. When moving the throttle for the first 1/3 a portion in the linkage does move, the part with what looks like the idle set screw does not actually push on the portion that pushes the carb linkage to 1/3 and above. Logically it seems to me this is why the governor is pushing the throttle back down, because it is not "calibrated.

Check this adjustment first, You may have to loosen the clamp and slide the throttle cable housing in or out to get the recommended RPM's.....

Thank you so much. Does this explain why the governor pushes the throttle back down to half? Judging by ear, full throttle still sounds like full throttle (correct rpms), it just will not stay there.

Sounds like your throttle control lever is loose...
Some throttle assy's have a nut and bolt that can be tightened to snug up the cable movement.
