School will need new mower in future what to get?

Hello all,

The school I am going to this year has some acreage that needs to be mowed. The current equipment the school has is a Cub Cadet 3654, a Kubota garden tractor (42) and a Snapper Z Rider (61). One problem is that they have never ever been maintained, the cub blades are 5 years old and have never been touched at all. They use that one to cut the football field. I could not believe it I told them you need new blades asap all you are doing is beating the grass to death. They have never been greased, gas drained, oil, etc..... nada. The Snapper is faling apart b/c of no maintenance. The cubs deck has an inch of dirt and grass stuck to the bottom. There are paper bags wedged between the spindles and the blades. Simply put never maintained. One of the groundskeepers asked what type of new equipment do you recommend? I said for this Scag is my first choice, along w/ exmark, toro, etc Then I gave her some prices she was shocked. Yet that was for a cheeta turf tiger lazer z... I was wondering what would you guys recommend? used is an option (the school is on a very tight budget) Would a Pioneer, tiger cat etc be fine? I told her we should have one very tough mower not 3, and use a tractor w/ a bush hog for the overgrown stuff. Plus one is easier to maintain than 3! What would you guys say. Equipment be is very dusty conditions, used very often!

If the blades haven't been sharpened you should be able to sharpen them instead of buying new ones.

As for the choice of mowers, I would say, find a good dealer that is relatively close by and buy from him. He'll be able to give you advice that will help you thru "future situations", and hopefully supply you with a "loaner" if your mower is in the shop. A good dealer will probably bring you a loaner and pick your mower up for repair / maintenance.

A well maintained commercial grade mower should last a very long time.

I liked the Scag SW36 and the Toro Grandstand 48" when I demoed them. Prob A SCAG SW36-SW72 with a sit down sulkey would be good these people.

Also, the TORO GrandStand would be good for them too with a 48-61" deck.

You should have them check out the WRIGht Sport. I have not demoed them, but they look good for their needs.

Might be able to also find a propane unit for those Texas Green Days......

Can mow (in optimal conditions) a football field in 15 minutes.

Just get it done!
