Not trying to dispute you in any way, but my experience has been just the opposite. Never seen plugging work to my satisfaction. I've sprigged that particular variety in two lawns and had at least 85% coverage in 6 weeks both times. And to me, sprigging is easy (especially with irrigation system), but that's just my personal opinion. (Former GC Super turned chem. salesman).

I did plugging because I didn't have a way to chop up sod into sprigs. A local sod farm has a springer but ha to be pulled behind a tractor and didn't think it would work so be my lawn isn't big and wide open.

It's been around 3 months and I'd say I got 80-90% coverage. I'm going to need to top dress next year and it should be filled in and looking great

I understand that completely. That is an awesome cultivar. First time I saw it was when i sodded some tees with it. Guy brought it out and I'd have bet money it was dead (no green in it whatsoever). He says "Just put it down and water it", so I did. I wouldnt have believed it if I hadn't seen it but in three weeks it was absolutely perfect.

As things begin to slow and go dormant I wanted to update everyone on how things are looking. I've been really impressed! Now I did fertilize about every 2-3 weeks and cut it twice a week. I sprayed it with primo and cut back on mowing once a week(did this about 6 weeks ago). So did I save money by plugging vs. sodding considering all the labor and extra stuff it did? I don't know but it worked and gave my neighbors something to talk about.

I will still need to topdress or aerate/drag some aeras that are a little bumpy, but that shouldn't be a problem. I also have some thin spots around the bed lines. This could be from shade or poor soil(I moved the bed lines back some to increase the turf area and decades of pinestraw build up could be a problem).

Nice fill in. Should be able to back off the fert now or about 6 weeks before the last frost. Aerate, top dress and level next spring.

Already done. Put down 1lb k per 1000 last week and will apply a fall pre very soon.
