Slip-Fix Question
I know slip-fix's are supposed to be installed fully extended.
But, is there a preferred orientation, i.e., should the female end versus the male end be facing the direction from which the flow is coming? Thanks, Mex |

Not that I like them that much, the body should be upstream with the extender fully extended down stream. Seems to me, unions or the four 90s would be a better choice.

Why the body upstream?

Because I've seen them "pulse" if the body is backwards to the flow. Hard on the "O" rings.

If they are pulsing, they are not fully extended.
We use a tape measure to get it purrrfect. the manufacturer does not specify that there is a correct position to install except fully extended. I have not seen an oring fail yet. I have seen them fail when they are in a bind, when they are not fully extended, not enough pipe glued on, or they were the brand at ace/lowes sells(the type that disassembled seems to be more prone to crack). But i agree with you especially on pipe bigger than 1", 4 90s is preferable. On a side not they do make schedule 80 telescoping couplings. |

I've used a 3" one on a 120psi golf mainline before. We tried to orient them in a manner that allowed us to brace it the best since it was usually attached to pipe that had gasket fittings on the other end...

I've used telescoping repair couplings on pipe up to 3" 70 PSI; body upstream and fully extended. No problems... yet.

i have used so many of these it aint funny. i usually try to put the body upstream, but i dont think it matters, cuz i have done it both ways, and not fully extended sometimes, and it has not failed on my yet in 12 years of doing so. i try however, to get them to fully extend without binds
