Bought New Kohler 28 EFI

I had oil leaking from my Kohler 28 EFI and told my dealers head mechanic to perform a compression and leak-down test so I could get a feeling for what the engine may or may not have left.

He call me yesterday and told me the compression tested good, but the #1 cylinder was in the moderate range on the leak-down test. I told him it could be the rings, a scar in the cylinder wall, or a valve not seating properly, and I wanted him to look inside the engine to physically see what it looked like.

He called me this morning and said the number one cylinder looked worse than he would have thought based on the leak-down test. I immediately told him I was not fooling with that engine and would have him one on the way within 30 minutes. I call my friend at Small Engine Warehouse and had a new in the box Kohler 28 efi shipped to arrive at my dealer on Thursday at what my dealer considered an unbelievable price, one he said he could not come close to when buying himself.

The going price for this engine is $2800.00, and I bought it for a flat price of $1289.00 with shipping included. I honestly don't believe anyone can touch their prices.

1300, most would still be running the engine, I'm the type to go ahead and take care of a problem before it gets any worse. I will say this has been a very good engine, never failed to start when the key is turned no matter the temperature.

Man, that sounds like an unbelieveably good deal, especially for an EFI engine.

1300 hours isn't that much for one of these machines, so you'll porbably have plenty of life left in it after this new engine wears out too. Maybe you should snag another one while you can for that price?

I could have fixed the oil leak and run the engine I had for really no telling how much longer. I am just one of those people that like new things anyway, and knowing how well this engine has treated me, and how much fuel it has saved for the six years it has been in operation, I don't mind spending that small amount of money to put the mower back to excellent condition.

This mower has a complete new hydraulic system, both pumps and wheel motors have been replaced within the last 100 hrs., along with all new spindles, all new belts, and idler pulleys. I had a bearing rattling in the electric clutch, and I told the mechanic while it was there to put a new clutch in as well, so other than the frame and tires, everything will be new.
