I have a similar setup on a 15hp diesel compact Mits tractor. It has turf tires and is 2wd but does an excellent job. I have a Classen 40 3 pt mount. I can aerate all day and not get tired. The diesel is very efficient on fuel. I have had this setup for years.

I have a nice little John Deere 1026 tractor. I was thinking of using a 3 pt mounted aerator with it. Drop the the BH and bucket and it's not much heavier than a ZTR. 4wd helps with aerating in wet conditions too I'd assume.

Does anyone have feedback on pros/cons of a tractor/3pt aerator setup? I don't do much aerating, but I need something for my own big lawn anyway and my feet have too many problems lately to want to use the Bluebird on anything but tiny patches of lawn anyway.

My cheapo tow unit's tow bar folded up today when I tried to back it with 200 lbs on it! LOL. It cost like $125 7 years ago, so I wasn't upset. But I want something that pulls full cores, not open spoons if possible.

Any suggested reasonable cost aeration units favored by anyone?

That's one I was looking into. A good compromise between homeowner types and expensive full commercial units. Glad to hear it works well. The ability to lift the unit quickly with a 3 pt hitch allows one to get into a few more places than tow behinds, and a 4wd tractor solves some traction issues if aerating after rains (which you probably should try to always be doing down here).

Of course not everybody has a $20,000 tractor sitting around, but it really does beat standing. I have worn my feet out on sulkys and couldn't do that anyway anymore.
