Stihl gear case grease

Does anybody know where to get this grease? I'm looking for a little bit bigger container than Stihl sells. You know? That little tube.

The grease is a lithium soap thickened synthetic oil grease that is manufactured by Fuchs Lubritech.

Under the Fuchs name it is called "stabyl eco s 12". SKF also has a version and it is called "LGLT 2".

This grease is unique in that it is designed for very small bearings that run at high speed. Like you might find in a hedge trimmer or grass trimmer head.

This grease is the factory fill. It is highly recommended that you do not mix other types of grease with it.

So far all I've been able to find is a 200 gram tube of the SKF grease at about $45.

It can be another brand of grease as long as it's the same type.

Since 1985 always used normal gun grease never had a gear head problem

Look closely. Stihl sells more than one kind of grease in the little tubes.
The grease made for the hedge trimmer gearbox is very different from the grease for the string trimmer bevel gears.

The Gear Master grease. The grease for hedge trimmers is just your everyday, run of the mill, lithium soap in mineral oil.

Ok, that one. That looks to be the same idea as Makita Hypoid Gear Grease.
If you're looking for the same grease, good luck. All of these manufacturers have the blends made to proprietary specs, just so you're locked in. Stihl is about as bad as it gets when it comes to lock in.

Any gearbox that contains a worm or helical gear, requires a special lubricant that has friction modifiers to prevent wear from a lot of sliding action (that's not the case with a traditional gearbox).
So, that's the reason that going with a plain grease is a bad idea.

It's not unique at all! It,s just a good quality #"00" ( fine grade) grease, as opposed to,say, #2 , #1, or # 0, which is what makes it suitable for small ball bearings.

Sthil sells a big tube also. It comes with a metal clip for winding up the tube to squeeze it out. They do make two different types but my dealer informed me I could use the one type in both, but forgot which one that was.
