Hey all! been a long time since ive posted on here. Im looking at a dump truck to by now. Breifly its a 97 f350 4wd dump regular cab 8ft bed down fall is its a 460 motor. Truck only has 39k miles on it. the truck is imaculate and under 10k Is this a good deal? Right now im driving a dodge 2500 with a insert and getting about 10mpg towing my trailer should i be getting about that with this truck? it would only be driven in the city so im not worried about highway mpg.

From what i can find out it has 4:10s with a posi or limited slip axle code is F5

You will probably get 8 -9 MPG with the 460, sometimes less. The older 460 engines are prone to exhaust manifold cracks, and exhaust manifold gasket failures.

ok so that wont be a huge difference from what i have now and im getting 10mpg now. The truck has brand new manifolds and gaskets

Yea im thinking about it a lot going this weekend to look at it. talked to the guy 2 times on the phone he says the only thing it needs is clearance lights in the dump body and he joked saying they all break haha

At a rental shop i used to work for we had a uhaul truck with the 460 with the c6 auto i think?? and the only thing wrong with truck was it had about a 1/4 turn play with the steering. but the engine burned a little oil but didnt leak. I go for it obviously id try and chew him down but ive heard those engines put amazing torque for hauling and plowing.

Not a ford fan today but the 460's we used to have were awesome. Powerful. Never let us down. I'd go for it.

460 is beast of a motor. Mpg is somewhere between 6-8 towning or not.

i ran a 92ford f250 for years with a 460 and 5 speed tranny pulling a 30ft gooseneck horse trailer all across 3 states and it is a work horse, you'll get between 6 to 10 mpg depending on how you drive. it has plenty of power.I wouldn't hesitate but i would make him a lower offer as the truck is 15 yrs old.

Thanks for the info on the 460. Went and looked at the truck guy said it never had a sander in it what does the truck have sander controls and looked at me dumb founded when i mentioned it to him, dump body was gone, transmission lost its bolts so you could hear it moving when you slammed on the breaks. the truck was a 4k trucknot a 8k truck. gotta love when people claim its mint just needs little things haha guess we all have different opinons on little things.
