Does the collum have to be taken apart or does it just cpme out the side

Also since this thing set for two years the rear main is leaking. I have never been onto snake oils much, other than sea foam, but is there anything that might work

not sure i understand the question? gotta pull off the coloum covers, ign tumbler. then theres 3 torx holding it in

That is what I was wondering. I found a video the other day on changing one. They first pulled the dash plate, then tumbler and then the column covers. I have never pulled a tumbler out but the other was simple stuff.

Is there a way to have these checked first?

Yea, the is a way. But from your symptoms it sounds like the contacts are bad (common with fords even had a recall on them for certain models) if you lightly press dwn and they work but then go all the way dwn and they don't, its internal in the switch. The metal contacts are wore out

Do you know of a website that I can put in my vin and see if it was on the recall list?

I think these things have some type of gremlins also. Every now and then my 04 Excursion has a problem with the radio and windows for awhile after startup and I noticed this 03 truck has done it twice also.
