How to Aerate? tips/ techniques

Hey guys
I am looking to begin aearting lawns. i am wondering if there is anything you would reccomend someone whos never done it before know? if there is anything to watch out for, or anything that will help me do it the best possible way?
I am wondering what to do about tree roots? it seems like it might damage the plugs
and finally- ryan or bluebird 18"?

THANKS so much!

I have a Bluebird 530a, I think its 26", its a real tank and will make even the young fellers tired.

Avoid tree roots if you can.

Be sure the homewoner or you mark all the sprinkler heads so you dont hit them, the machione will break them and you wont know it, that will result in a extremely pixxed customer.

I wouldn't jump the gun and buy new. Just rent until you get enough that want the service each season. Then buy one. Even then you could go used and find a deal on one somewhere.

I paid 800 for my bluebird 530a in near new condition.

Theres good deals all over the place on good used aerators, good advice.

Agree, any irrigated lawn needs sprink heads marked.

Also, DO NOT pull plugs when it is dry, hot, and the soil hard as a rock. Does way more harm than good. I saw TG out pulling plugs around here in July, amidst our severe drought. Not good.

Buy a used aerator, keep it in top running condition. Ryan is a reliable brand IMO.

Like previously stated, tell the homeowners to mark the sprinkler heads and avoid yard with leaf coverage. There can be "leafy surprises" waiting for you.
