fescue thickness?

I planted two patches of turf tall fescue. brand name is defiance. the blades are thick. however in another spot the blades are thin and the density is tighter.

maybe a dumb question but anyone have an answer to this.

The spot with the thin blades may be because it's actually overplanted so that the individual plants are having to compete with eachother too hard. If it isn't grossly overplanted it should be fine. I have seen cases where grass was grossly overplanted and it came up fine at first and then just all died (my 3 year old was helping, lol).

the fine grass has been planted for a few months and cut. probably threw in too much seed and starter fertilizer. glad that is not the stuff in the front yard.

What you also may be experiencing is different varieties of grasses in the mix establishing themselves more prominently in different areas.

here is the label.

24.95% gold medallion tall fescue 90% germination
24.91% speedway tall fescue 90% germination
24.85% davinci tall fescue 90% germination
24.73% tulsa time tall fescue 90% germination

00.02% other crop
00.54% inert matter
00.00% weed seed
